Trump Campaign Being Outspent by Biden Ahead of Election

If you’re a supporter of President Donald Trump, now is the time to donate to his campaign. The Biden campaign is, frankly, running away with fundraising. In the month of August, Biden raised a head-scratching $364 million, outraising the president by over $100 million.

While that might not sound important, it’s a big deal when the election is only seven weeks away.

The president takes a beating every day in the media, and, now, Biden is able to spend millions each week on political ads that hammer his message home.

Biden’s ads insist that “Trump’s America” is unsafe, pointing to rampaging wildfires and widespread civil unrest. That the fires are occurring in Democratically-run states and the protests are happening in Democratic cities seems to be of little concern to Biden.

Biden Campaign Spending Raises Eyebrows

Top GOP strategists have taken notice of Biden’s immense campaign spending. This week, Biden will spend the most on ad buys of any candidate so far this cycle. Biden’s campaign is spending a whopping $65 million on ad buys this week alone. This includes a multi-pronged attack on the president, from digital ads to broadcast and even print ads.

Most of the ad spending is being funneled into hotly-contested battleground states. Due to the bizarre year that 2020 has been so far, the electoral map is looking a bit different than in prior years.

Bafflingly, Texas and Georgia, typical Republican strongholds, have become more competitive for Biden. Georgia’s case is particularly egregious: after Republican Brian Kemp won a special election in Georgia, Democratic challenger Stacy Abrams has suggested that Kemp employed voter suppression to win the election.

Why is Trump Lagging in Funding?

For supporters of the president, his campaign funding shortfall is truly perplexing. How is Trump being outspent by a Democrat, a political mainstay who has been in and out of Washington for decades? There are a number of factors at play. Primarily, public polling is playing a big role.

Biden is the more popular candidate, point-blank. National polls have proven that time and again over the past few months. Biden’s lead over Trump has narrowed since the summer, but it remains stubbornly ahead of the president.

This, in turn, has led many major GOP donors to hedge their bets. With the election now looking like Biden’s to lose (sorry, folks) many donors are now turning to Senate races in competitive states.

Should Trump face the unthinkable, a blowout loss to Biden, GOP strategists want to secure downballot elections like the Senate and the House.
